Thinkware U1000 4K Dash Cam 2020 Latest Updated Review
The U1000 has a low profile and a modern design, featuring a 4K UHD front-facing camera. Monitor your vehicles’ activity remotely. Thinkware cloud lets you check your vehicles’ location and receive notifications directly on your compatible iOS/Android smartphone
The Thinkware U1000 is one of the most expensive ones, to date. Video quality of the forward camera is great. Especially at night, the front camera records very good footage, considering that 4K cameras usually struggle in low light situations.
The rear camera is a bit disappointing though, so it’s a good thing that it’s optional.
You get a free CPL filter and hard-wire kit with the front-and-rear package though, so in total, it may still be worth going for.
The U1000 comes with a lot of extras, such as remote live view, impact notifications, radar-assisted parking mode, and more.
Feature-wise, it’s right up there with BlackVue’s DR900S-2CH, but with better video quality.
We wouldn’t be surprised if Thinkware released an updated rear camera down the road.
Thinkware has also released an app called Thinkware Cloud, which lets you check your vehicles’ location and receive notifications directly on your compatible iOS or Android smartphone.
This app works on almost every other Thinkware model as well.
From this app, you can view and play recorded videos, download the latest firmware to the device, configure the dash camera settings, manage wifi settings and hotspot connections, and use the Live View feature.
While many dash cameras have a smartphone app, very few of them have so many features as Thinkware’s new app.
One of the new features is a Strong Impact Notification system.
The THINKWARE U1000 itself looks nothing like other THINKWARE dash cams. In fact, that seems to be a thing with them.
All their different series of dashcams look different and help distinguish them from each other. The U1000 is a bit larger than their other flagship, the Q800Pro.
This one kind of looks like a men’s beard shaver with a camera lens attached to it. While it is a bit large, I’m sure that’s to house a lot of the tech that makes the U1000 their most advanced dash cam right now.
There is no display on the Thinkware U1000 but there are a a few buttons on it. The buttons on the U1000 are for power, to turn off and on the Wi-Fi, and to turn on and off the mic.
There is also a dedicated record button if you need to record something in an emergency and want to make sure it gets saved.
Stay On Top Of Hazards Ahead
The Thinkware U1000’s internal GPS provides accurate location information while the comprehensive safety camera and driver assistance warning systems help keep you safe on the road.
The Safety Camera Alert function is on continuous alert to warn you of red lights, speed traps and other traffic enforcement cameras.
The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) can alert you of potential forward collisions, lane departures, and front vehicle departures.
Monitor Your Vehicle At No Additional Cost
Thinkware Cloud mobile app lets you check your vehicle’s location and receive geo-fencing and impact notifications directly on your compatible iOS or Android smartphone
With the free Thinkware Cloud and Thinkware app, check your vehicle’s location and receive geo-fencing and driving and parking impact notifications directly on your compatible iOS or Android smartphone.
Get 3X Longer Parking Surveillance
Energy Saving Parking Mode 2.0 takes energy saving efficiency to the next level
It uses ultra-low power of 7.8mA, reducing power consumption by 1/3 less and giving you 3x longer video recording than typical parking mode, whether it is motion or impact detection.
For those looking for the ultimate parking protection, the optional RADAR sensor an extend parking coverage even further while still offering pre-event/buffered footage.
Free Thinkware Hardwiring Kit included to unlock parking surveillance out-of-the-box.
Minimalistic, Non-Distracting Form Factor with Rotating Camera
Breaking away from the design that Thinkware utilized for its previous flagships, the U1000 comes in an elegant yet stealthy black-and-silver casing that is virtually invisible from outside the vehicle.
The camera lens is rotatable to accommodate a wide range of windshields and mounting angles.
Integrate thermal protection with a thermal sensor protect the U1000 and preserve its reliability in extreme temperatures.
This feature is enabled through the built-in GPS antenna, which shows the viewer the vehicle’s location, speed, and direction
If the user has the Hardwire Cable installed and the camera is connected to a mobile hotspot, then they can get a Strong Impact Notification while the vehicle is parked as well.
It works in the same way as the regular notification: once an impact is detected, it saves the 20 second file in the cloud and sends the user a notification.
This means you don’t have to constantly check your car for potential footage. You can also use the app’s Live View to remotely monitor the vehicle on your mobile device for up to 5 hours a month.
The GPS built-in antenna adds an additional feature called Geo Fencing
Geo Fencing lets the owner of the vehicle set a geographic radius as small as 100m to as big as 600km.
