While it’s great to see a budget HD DIY camera on the market, Tend Secure should’ve thrown a little more money at the Lynx’s design.
The base that’s supposed to hold the camera upright on a table or other flat surface doesn’t quite get the job done.
You could tape it down or skip a tabletop installation altogether (wall-mounting hardware comes with your purchase), but it isn’t ideal.
Design and Features
Standing 3 inches high and measuring 2 inches wide by 2 inches deep, the Lynx replaces the Ezviz Mini HD as the smallest home security camera we’ve tested.
It has a clip-on stand you can use to rest it on a flat surface, or you can mount it on a wall using the included mounting screws.
The camera records 1080p video at 30fps, has a 125-degree field of view, and a built-in microphone and speaker for two-way audio.
The Lynx contains 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi circuitry, as well as a motion sensor and a single IR LED
A small LED status light is located near the bottom of the camera, next to the reset button and just below the mini USB power port.
Installation and Performance
Tend Secure Lynx ProInstalling the Lynx Pro is relatively easy, but if you’ll be installing it outdoors make sure you use a GFCI outlet.
I downloaded the app and created an account, then mounted the camera under a soffit in my backyard close to a GFCI outlet.
I then plugged the camera into the outlet, tapped Add New camera in the app Settings menu
Following the app instructions I used my phone’s settings to connect to the camera’s Wi-Fi SSID, returned to the app, and gave the camera a name.

What would a security camera be without Wi-Fi? About a dozen times less convenient. The Tend Insights Lynx Indoor 2 supports standard 802.11 Wi-Fi connections across Tend Insights 2.4Ghz band.
There’s no support for the 5Ghz band, but that shouldn’t be a concern given the fairly small amount of bandwidth involved in a 1080p video.
The Lynx 2 has roughly twice the range of its previous Wi-Fi chip.
Like any Wi-Fi device, it’s signal performance is restricted by the environment in which you install the camera.
